A wonderful quality vintage Cultured Pearl necklace dating to the 1950's or so, classic beauty to add a touch of filmstar glamour to any outfit. Superbly graduated in the style which elongates the neck so gracefully, this piece gives that illuminating glow to the complexion so beloved. Most likely grown in Japanese Akoya Oysters, each creamy ivory Pearl has a high lustre and perfect symmetry so desirable, famously Marilyn Monroe was given a very similar Mikimoto Pearl necklace in 1954 on her honeymoon to Joe DiMaggio sparking a fashion for these immensely beautiful larger Pearls which had recently become available due to advances in the culturing processes. Each of these luminous lovelies would have taken at least a year to grow, the nacre having many more layers than on modern Pearls and the larger the Pearl, the longer the time, which is why the graduated style was so oft made as is in this case only one very large 8mm Pearl was needed to complete the necklace.
The Pearls graduate from 4.5mm to 8mm and the strand is a longer length which closes at 22 inches with a pretty Art Deco styled Diamond set safety clasp in 9ct White Gold, this is a wonderful piece to treasure and keep in your family as an heirloom.
