A striking 20 inch long triple row twisted strand of vintage Freshwater Pearls. Cultured in freshwater mussels in inland lakes, these are likely an example from 'Lake Biwa' the famous Japanese lake where the culturing of Freshwater Pearls in Hyriopsis Schlegeli species mussels first began in earnest but which was mostly abandoned by the 1970's due to water pollution and disease amongst the mussels. Each sweetly tiny rice krispie shaped Pearl has a high lustre and creamy white tone and they are threaded in the fashion which was so popular at the time; the twisted rope. Fastened with a very pretty Silver and Paste box clasp, all is quite lovely.
